Heidfeld very confident in BMW Sauber potential
Although much attention was garnered by Robert Kubica`s place on the third step of the podium at the conclusion of the Bahrain Grand Prix, Nick Heidfeld also drove a remarkable race for the BMW Sauber F1 Team as he took fourth position behind his teammate.
The German driver describes his impressions of the third race weekend of the year and looks forward to the first stop in Europe.
After struggling to find the right tuning for his F1.08 during the free practice sessions, Heidfeld improved throughout the course of the weekend, ending qualifying in sixth position on the grid and finishing the race in great form.
“It was quite a difficult weekend for me, and fourth place is a decent result,” Heidfeld comments on his performance in Bahrain. “We were quicker than McLaren. Only the Ferraris were faster than us, and even they weren`t far ahead.
“
Nick Heidfeld`s fighting performance at the Bahrain International Circuit was well-rewarded as the 30-year-old moved up to second place in the drivers` championship.
His fourth place also contributed to the BMW Sauber F1 Team taking the lead in the constructors` championship for the very first time in its history.
Heidfeld is certain that the team can perform just as well at the Spanish Grand Prix on 27th April: “I am incredibly proud or our lead in the team standings. I am sure that our teams in Munich and Hinwil will use the time up to the race in Barcelona to further develop our potential.”
